Julien Gros is a 7th generation winemaker who spent the early part of his career working for others. Initially a winegrower in Burgundy (Domaine Paul Missetand Jayer-Gilles) and then in the Rhône valley (Famille Perrin& Fils), he had the opportunity to take over several family plots. In January 2016, Domaine Julien Gros was born.
Julien’s two hectare estate covers four appellations, including two monopoles in Savigny-les-Beaune and two Grands Crus. His vineyards are manually maintained and harvested and the soil is worked with delicatesse and precision. In the cellar, Julien favours minimal intervention: wines are vinified in large oak casks (50% new) and are aged unracked for a minimum of 12 months. The resulting wines are precise, expressive and of great depth.
Arguably one of Burgundy’s young prodigies, Julien is one to watch.
