Louis Billard hails from the picturesque La Rochepot in the Hautes Côtes de Beaune near Meursault, where his family's winemaking legacy spans five generations. Immersed in the art of winemaking from a young age, Louis embarked on an ambitious journey to pursue his passion.
His odyssey commenced locally, honing his craft at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti for two formative years from 2018 to 2019, followed by an enriching stint at Georges Roumier during the 2020 harvest. Louis's quest for knowledge extended beyond the borders of the Côte d’Or, taking him to South Africa's Newton Johnson Estate and later to Australia, where he collaborated with Nick Farr at the renowned By Farr Estate. Armed with a deeper understanding of his native grape varieties, Louis felt compelled to return to his roots.
Equipped with a newfound reverence for terroir's influence on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Louis initiated his own venture. Emphasizing purity in his craft, he delves into the terroirs of both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, meticulously tending to a selection of esteemed appellations from Saint-Aubin to Vosne-Romanée, a testament to his exacting style.
In his pursuit of excellence, Louis orchestrates the fermentations of his white wines in barrels on fine lees, seeking to strike a harmonious balance between the textural richness and the vibrant freshness of Chardonnay. For his red wines, Louis incorporates a significant portion of whole bunches, ranging from 50 to 100%, to craft reds that exude complexity, purity, and vivacity across the Côte-d’Or.
